Overview

Join TUA on this trek where you will climb the tallest peak in the African continent, Mt. Kilimanjaro, via the Machame route. Also known as the Whiskey route, Machame was the first camping route established to hike Mount Kilimanjaro.

The region of Machame was initially referred to as the Great African Giant. Its steep hills and ever-changing climate will challenge the most skilled and adventurous hiking enthusiasts. Nevertheless, the mesmerizing views and diverse ecosystems as you ascend the Giant will enthrall you to the wonders of the region.

The route starts with a short drive from Moshi town to Machame gate before the hike starts. The route begins from the south, heads to west and then later traverses to underneath Kilimanjaro’s southern ice field before you summit from south-east of the mountain.

Please note that we need at least 8 people to run this group trip.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and gear check

Upon your arrival at the airport, your driver will be waiting for you with a sign bearing your name. They will escort you to your hotel in Arusha, where you'll have dinner and stay overnight. Later in the afternoon or evening, your mountain guide will meet with you for a comprehensive Kilimanjaro climb briefing and an equipment check. This is your opportunity to ask any questions and make sure you're fully prepared for the incredible journey ahead.

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp

Day 4: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Hut

Day 7: Summit attempt - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and back down to Mweka Camp

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Day 9: Departure or onward safari adventure
