Clothing appropriate in winter weather conditions. This trip will run in all weather, unless conditions are unsafe. Personal gears you will need: - Waterproof jacket & pants, - Wool or synthetic (no cotton) clothing layers, - Waterproof boots (mountaineering boots recommended), - Gaiters, - Ice axe, - Helmet, - Food and water, - Glacier glasses, - A backpack

FAQ 2. Should I tip my guide?

Tipping is a well-established practice in the adventure industry and demonstrates that your guide delivered a satisfactory experience. Tipping amounts vary, so ultimately it is up to your discretion, and how satisfied you are with the quality of your trip. The guides experience indicates that 15 – 20% of the course cost is a good rule-of-thumb. Cash is always appreciated, but all guides can accept tips via Venmo as well.

Highlights

Learn the fundamentals of mountaineering and the skills to stay safe and climb some of the beginner mountains in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

You will learn how to walk on snow fields, use crampons and how to self arrest using an ice axe, the skills needed to summit Cascade peaks like Mt. St. Helens, Adams, or South Sister. This course does not teach glacier travel or how to lead a rope team.

Note: This course requires a minimum of 6 participants to run at this price. If we have fewer than 6 sign up the pricing would be $335.

Beginner Snow Skills Course

DAY 1

Beginner Snow Skill Session

Climbing the PNW's iconic peaks and other glaciated climbs require a special set of skills to ensure safety and a good experience.

Learn how to use alpine climbing boots, crampons, and an ice axe to ascend alpine slopes of up to 40 degrees steepness. This course will prepare you for climbs such as Mt. Helens, Mt. Adams via the South Spur and South Sister.

Note: You will meet your guide at the TH. The details and instructions will be sent once you book the trip.
