Once you book the trip, you will be provided with a detailed gear list covering clothing, footwear, accessories and equipment.

FAQ5: What is the fitness level required for this trip?

Your guides will teach you everything you need to know about using snowshoes, winter camping, and backpacking. No experience necessary! Participants must be able to snowshoe up to 7 miles a day up moderate to steep inclines while carrying a 40lb (or heavier) pack.

For those desiring a guided winter backcountry adventure in a spectacular setting, snowshoeing around Crater Lake on the unplowed Rim Drive is an unforgettable experience. Crater Lake National Park receives an average of 44 feet of snow every year. During the winter, trails and unplowed roads snowshoers with access to open slopes, dense forests, and breathtaking views, making it ideal for backcountry visitors. Once an active volcano (Mount Mazama), this now deep blue crater lake is 6 miles across and nearly 2,000 feet deep (the deepest in the US!). With over 100 miles of hiking trails in Crater Lake National Park, there is plenty to explore and discover!

DAY 1

Meet in Troutdale

Depart from the meeting point in Troutdale, drive 6-8 hours to Crater Lake (depending on driving conditions).You will stop for lunch along the way. Upon arrival, you will snowshoe to Discovery Point and set up camp for the evening.

Please contact us if you would like to be picked up by your guides in Bend, Oregon, Medford, Oregon, or the trailhead instead of driving with them from Portland.
