Join Mountains, Sea & She for a 3 day climb of Mount Baker. Mountains Sea and She - Outdoor Adventures is a safe, inclusive group space for women of all fitness and experience levels to come together to plan adventures, make new friends, seek advice, and share knowledge and experiences.  

This Mount Baker climb is meant for beginner climbers in a good physical condition looking to start mountaineering. With its twelve active glac­i­ers and breath­tak­ing views, 10,781ft Mount Bak­er pro­vides a scenic and extreme­ly reward­ing moun­taineer­ing expe­ri­ence for both first-time climbers and sea­soned vet­er­ans alike.  

Highlights:  

- Selec­tion and use of per­son­al equip­ment, ropes, knots and harnesses  

- Cram­pon use and snow climb­ing tech­niques, ice axe posi­tion­ing, and self arrest techniques  

- Roped glac­i­er trav­el, rope team man­age­ment, route find­ing, and crevasse navigation  

- Haz­ard assess­ment includ­ing a dis­cus­sion of objec­tive vs. sub­jec­tive hazards  

- Camp con­struc­tion, camp man­age­ment, and cold weath­er camp­ing skills  

- Prop­er cloth­ing and climb­ing gear for sur­vival in the high moun­tains, moun­tain weath­er, alpine ecol­o­gy, avalanche haz­ard assess­ment, and Leave No Trace ethics  

Note:  

- We need minimum 7 people to run this trip. The climbing route will be decided by the guides based on the road condition.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hike to the base camp

The day starts with the gear check at a pre-agreed location. Then the group will head to one of the Mount Bak­er trail­heads, Schreiber Mead­ows for the Eas­t­on glac­i­er or Heliotrope for the Cole­man Dem­ing glac­i­ers.  

After estab­lish­ing the camp, the remain­der of the day will focus on the skills nec­es­sary for the prop­er use of an ice axe, trav­el­ing in bal­ance, self-belay, and self-arrest.  

You will then focus on the skills required for safe and effi­cient glac­i­er trav­el includ­ing roped trav­el and self-res­cue (prusiking) tech­niques followed by a short glacier​ “tour,” enabling you to prac­tice and com­pre­hend the day’s lessons.  

Dis­cus­sions later in the day will focus on nav­i­ga­tion with the use of GPS devices, phone nav­i­ga­tion appli­ca­tions and map and compass.  

Route 1: Coleman Deming Glacier  

Total Distance: 11 mi/17.7 km round trip  

Trail head to Base camp  

Elevation Gain: ~ 2,300 ft/701 m  

Total Time: 3-4 hrs  

Route 2: Easton Glacier  

Total Distance: 14 mi/22.5 km  

Trail head to Base camp  

Elevation Gain: ~ 2,400 ft/731 m  

Total Time: 3-4 hrs

Accommodations

On day 1, for 3 days

You will be camping in the base camp on the double occupancy tent for 2 nights. All group equipment, such as tents, are covered in the trip's cost. If you prefer to have a single-person tent, you have the option to rent one for an additional fee.

Cancellation Policy

This trip is confirmed once 7 people have booked. Once the trip is confirmed, the following cancellation policy applies:  

- Any cancellation requested 61 days prior to the departure day gets a full refund minus $100 non-refundable deposit.  

- From day 60 until 31 you have the right to a 50% refund.  

- From day 30 until the day of departure, will not be eligible for any refund.
