Highlights

Gokyo Valley Trekking route takes you to the less popular, yet more beautiful, part of the Everest region. The journey begins with the exploration of the ancient, cultural and historical heritage of Kathmandu valley. Take on this less traveled path as we wander through the trail to the settlements of Dole and Machhermo. followed by the beautiful Gokyo valleyand an exploration of the Gokyo village, one of the highest settlements in the world. As a part of this trek, we will ascend the Gokyo Peak. Atop the ridge, there is a stunning view of the Ngozumba glacier, from where, you can enjoy panoramic views, which have to be seen to be believed. The Ngozumpa glacier provides a picture-perfect backdrop for this stunning panorama. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8511m), Cho Oyu (8153m) and Makalu (8463m) are the five highest mountains to see from here. The view from this peak is more beautiful than the iconic and more popular Kala Patthar in the Everest region. The return journey from Gokyo valley is a leisurely trek to Namche and Lukla, before returning to Kathmandu. Intermittently, we also trek past Buddhist monasteries and prayer wheels, suspension bridges festooned with prayer flags and other cultural symbols.

Mountain lodges or tea houses. Based on location, the tea houses vary on their quality and style on this trek. Each of them have communal room downstairs with one or two bed bedrooms above them. You have to share toilet facilities. Some have hot shower facilities but some will have a stand pipe. Tea houses use a burning stove in main communal area. The other rooms are unheated. Tea houses do not have money exchange facilities. We recommend you exchange cash in Kathmandu.

At the lower altitudes there is electricity to charge your electronics. As we go higher tea houses become more basic. Cooler temperatures drain battery life, ensure your batteries last a little longer by putting it inside pocket of your coat during the day or under your pillow at night.

Dipak L

I am originally from the Gorkha district of Nepal. I am a government trained professional trekking guide and I have guided on most of the trekking routes and tours in Nepal. I am also a travel consultant for several well-known trekking companies. It has been an exciting journey for me. I started as a porter and worked my way up to become a highly respected guide and consultant. I now run a trekking company. Nepal is a fascinating and diverse country, where just a few miles will take you into a completely different landscape. I enjoy finding new routes so that our clients can have the best possible choice. And I enjoy travelling with them as they discover my country for themselves.
