Climb Mt. Shasta, a beautiful volcano in the Cascade range, standing tall at 14,179 feet. The Avalanche Gulch route used for this climb can be a great introduction to mountaineering for beginner mountaineers who are in good physical condition. Your guides will teach you the skills necessary for your climb and provide the group gear.
This is a 3 day guided climb, run as a fund raiser for Asha and includes a guided snow skills session organized by Asha. In the climb itself, you will learn and practice skills such as snow camping, snow walking techniques, roping up, self arrest, and more along the way, which are the foundational skills for climbing more mountains in future.
Whether this is your first 14er or your first glaciated climb, you are sure to get a taste of mountaineering with a hike to basecamp, followed by an early alpine start on the following day and push to the summit, before descending down the mountain.
This climb is led by the SWS Mountain guides who hold the permits to operate on Shasta-Trinity National Forest and operates on a non-discriminatory basis.
This trip has a 3:1 climber to guide ratio.
