Overview

The classic Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu is one of the most famous treks in South America, and for good reason. Mixing history, wildlife and spectacular scenery, this 9-day adventure covers sites that rank among the world’s most impressive archaeological sites.

The classic Inca Trail is about 42 km (26 miles) long and takes a circular route through various Andean environments, including cloud forest and alpine tundra. Along the trail, you’ll be trekking through an area of great biodiversity. You could come across orchids, foxes, cocks-of-the-rock (Peru’s national bird), spectacled bears, deer, and many more species of flora and fauna. As you trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, you’ll also pass impressive Inca ruins such as Wiñay Wayña and Phuyupatamarca. It’s an incredibly rich trekking experience before you even reach your destination: the sublime mountaintop Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

Due to the altitude of this trip, it is highly recommended that you spend at least 2 days acclimatizing at higher altitudes. As such we start this trip with a day in the city a day of the Sacred Valley tour that you will acclimatize on during the first two days of your trip before you start trekking at higher altitudes.

The cancellation policy for this trip varies from our standard cancellation policy. Please see the FAQs for the cancellation policy specific to this trip.

We need a minimum of 8 people to run this trip. In case the minimum number of spots are not booked, your trip amount will be refunded in full.
