Overview

Join Innovative Fitness for a thrilling 3-day climb of Mount Baker. This Mount Baker climb is designed for beginner climbers in good physical condition who are eager to delve into mountaineering. With its twelve active glaciers and breathtaking vistas, the 10,781-foot Mount Baker offers a scenic and immensely rewarding mountaineering experience, catering to both novices and seasoned veterans alike.  

Highlights:  

- Selection and use of personal equipment, ropes, knots, and harnesses  

- Crampon use and snow climbing techniques, ice axe positioning, and self-arrest techniques  

- Roped glacier travel, rope team management, route finding, and crevasse navigation  

- Hazard assessment, including a discussion of objective vs. subjective hazards  

- Camp construction, camp management, and cold weather camping skills  

- Proper clothing and climbing gear for survival in high mountains, understanding mountain weather, alpine ecology, avalanche hazard assessment, and Leave No Trace ethics  

Please note:  

We require a minimum of 6 participants to conduct this trip. The climbing route will be determined by the guides based on road conditions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Hike to the base camp

The day kicks off with a gear check at a predetermined location. Following that, the group will head to one of Mount Baker's trailheads—Schreiber Meadows for the Easton Glacier or Heliotrope for the Coleman Deming Glaciers.  

Once the camp is set up, the rest of the day will be dedicated to mastering essential skills such as proper ice axe usage, balanced travel, self-belay, and self-arrest techniques. You'll also delve into safe and efficient glacier travel skills, including roped travel and self-rescue (prusiking) techniques, followed by a brief glacier "tour" to practice and reinforce the day's lessons.  

Later discussions will focus on navigation using GPS devices, phone navigation applications, maps, and compasses.  

Route 1: Coleman Deming Glacier  

Total Distance: 11 mi/17.7 km round trip  

Trailhead to Base camp  

Elevation Gain: ~2,300 ft/701 m  

Total Time: 3-4 hrs  

Route 2: Easton Glacier  

Total Distance: 14 mi/22.5 km  

Trailhead to Base camp  

Elevation Gain: ~2,400 ft/731 m  

Total Time: 3-4 hrs

You will be camping at the base camp in a double occupancy tent for 2 nights. The trip's cost covers all group equipment, including tents. If you prefer a single-person tent, you can rent one for an additional fee.

Cancellation Policy

This trip is confirmed once 6 people have booked. Once the trip is confirmed, the following cancellation policy applies:  

- Any cancellation requested 91 days prior to the departure day gets a full refund minus $200 non-refundable deposit.  

- 90 days or less from trip depar­ture – will not be eligible for any refund.
