duration: 13 days

difficulty: Strenuous

group size: 8

experience: Beginner

Overview

The Everest base camp 13 day trek begins in the lively city of Kathmandu, followed by a short and scenic flight to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla and then trekking through unique villages of Phakding, Benkar, Monjo, Jorsale, and others.

Along the way you will visit several monasteries, crossover suspension bridges festened with prayer flags, as you enter the Sagarmatha National Park. Then you trek along the torrential Dudh Koshi River (the Milky River) until you reach the buzzing Namche Bazaar, a Himalayan town with interesting shops, fabulous food, stunning views, and culture.

After acclimating at the lower elevations you will head towards the scenic Tengboche and its impressive monastery, after which the adventure will lead you to the stunning Gorak Shep and the iconic Kala Patthar for a surreal view of the Himalayas. Kala Patthar is famous for its breathtaking view of glittering peaks including the Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Changtse. Here, you will also be able to view the majestic Khumbu Glacier, the famed Khumbu Icefall area, the glacial rivers, and avalanche paths.

Returning back from the high Himalayas, you will get to explore the authentic lifestyle of the Sherpa community and get a peek into the rich cultural heritage of these legendary people. Everest base camp short trek ends in Lukla before returning to the medieval capital city of Kathmandu.

I am originally from the Gorkha district of Nepal. I am a government trained professional trekking guide and I have guided on most of the trekking routes and tours in Nepal. I am also a travel consultant for several well-known trekking companies. It has been an exciting journey for me. I started as a porter and worked my way up to become a highly respected guide and consultant. I now run a trekking company. Nepal is a fascinating and diverse country, where just a few miles will take you into a completely different landscape. I enjoy finding new routes so that our clients can have the best possible choice. And I enjoy travelling with them as they discover my country for themselves.
