You will be camping on the mountain on double occupancy basis. Your camping accommodation, as provided by the guiding company, will include: 
- Tents
- Sleeping mats 2-inch form
- Private portable toilet
- Wash basins with hot water each morning and evening
- Mess tents
- Camping tables and chairs

Once you arrive at the airport, you will be received at the airport by the driver from the guiding company with a sign bearing your name. They will then drive you to your Hotel in Arusha. In the afternoon or evening your guide will meet you for a Kilimanjaro climb briefing and for an equipment check.

Arrive in Tanzania 

Today morning after breakfast, you will drive to Lemosho gate (6,890 ft/2,100 m) for registration (about 2 hours). The drive passes through varied farmland with open views over the plains to reach the Lemosho trailhead. You will have your lunch at the gate before starting to walk. It is an easy day of walking up a small path through the beautiful forest. When you arrive in Mti Mkubwa camp (8,694 ft/2,650 m) you will see your tents set up and dinner being prepared for you. You will have warm water to wash up. 
Trekking time: 2-3 hours depending on the weather and the fitness of the climbers, though the guides encourage “pole pole” climbing from the start.

Lemosho Gate to Forest Camp 

In the morning, after breakfast while the porters pack up your camp (8,694 ft/2,650 m), you start walking for about an hour and half, then you soon leave the forest behind and enter the moorland zone. As you continue walking, the trail climbs steadily with wide views as you reach the rim of the Shira Plateau. Along the trail it is easy to view the Shira Plateau, especially in afternoon if there is no rain or fog. You will be camping at Shira 1 Camp (11,843 ft/3,610 m).

Forest Camp to Shira 1 Camp

After breakfast you will start your trek to Moir hut camp (13,780 ft/4,200 m). Just after Shira 2 Camp the Lemosho Route joins the Machame Route, and you will follow it for a short time. Expect to see other trekkers there. You’ll diverge from the main trail and get to Moir Hut camp which is located beneath the scenic Lent Hills. Arrive at the Moir camp for dinner and overnight.
Trekking time: 5-6 hours, plus an optional short walk of 3-4 hours.

Elevation Gain: 1,937 ft/590 m

Shira 1 Camp to Moir Hut Camp 

Today you will enjoy a morning of gentle ascent and panoramic views, leaving the moorland plateau behind to walk on lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. After lunch at Lava Tower (15,092 ft/4,600 m), you will descend to the bottom of the Barranco Valley to Camp (Lava Tower takes us up to 15,092 ft/4600 m, promoting acclimatization, and you then descend to sleep at 12,795 ft/3,900 m.

Elevation Loss: 2,297 ft/700 m

Moir Hut to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp 

A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads to the trail on the south-eastern side of Kibo, along the southern ice fields. You will enjoy the unique vegetation as you transition from the moorlands to the high alpine desert. The Barranco Wall does involve a fair bit of scrambling up the rock face, while not a technical climb, many see this as some of the most challenging terrain. From the top of the wall, there is only a short distance to our camp at Karanga (13,106 ft/3,995 m)

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp 

After breakfast you will follow an easy path on compacted earth, with wide views, as you gain altitude to reach the Barafu Hut (15,331 ft/4,673 m) for lunch. Then following a full briefing of what you need for summit (how to dress and how to pack) and a health and safety briefing, we have an early supper and try to get some sleep.

Elevation Gain: 2,225 ft/678 m

Karanga Camp to Barafu Hut

You will start your ascent at about midnight to 1 am, depending on the  
fitness and speed of your fellow climbers, so that you can be up on the crater rim by sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree and nice graded zigzags and a slow but steady pace will take us to Stella Point (18,884 ft/5,756 m) in about five or six hours. You will rest there for a short time to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. For those who are still feeling strong we will continue with the two-hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft/5,895 m), passing close to glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. Following ample time for pictures at the summit, you will begin the descent back to Barafu for lunch, and after some refreshments, you continue to descend to reach Mweka campsite (10,170 ft/3,100 m).

Elevation Gain: 4,009 ft/1,221 m
Elevation Loss: 9,169 ft/2,794 m

Summit attempt: Barafu Hut to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp 

A sustained descent on a well-constructed path takes you through a lovely tropical forest alive with birdsong. Your route winds down to Mweka gate at 5,380 ft/1,640 m. You will have lunch at the Gate, a ceremony with the porters congratulating you as you receive your certificate, issued at the gate. 
You will then drive back to the hotel in Arusha for a well-deserved shower and overnight at the hotel.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate 

After breakfast, for those who plan to join us on safari, you will be there for your safari departure, or transfer to the airport for your trip back home or to your next destination.
