You will be staying in a comfortable 3* hotel in Arusha, in a standard room on double occupancy basis

You will be camping on the mountain on these days. Your camping accommodation, as provided by the guiding company, will include: 
You will be provided Mountain Hardwear tents. These “3-man” tents are provided for every two people. We also provide 2-in sleeping pads. On your hike, the porters will carry the tents, and all your gear and go ahead of you. When you reach your camp in the afternoon your tent will be set up and ready for you
You will be provided a chemical “sit-down” toilet in a small private tent for our own campsite. The porters will bring this along to each new campsite, as well. Showers are not available on the mountain, but a bowl of hot water is provided for each person every morning and when you arrive in camp each afternoon.
Before every meal we provide soap and hot water, for washing your hands.

Climb Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, through a varied and scenic route .

Once you arrive at the airport, you will be picked up by the driver from your local guiding company, with a sign bearing your name. They will then drive you to your hotel in Arusha for dinner and overnight stay. In the afternoon or evening your mountain guide will meet you for a Kilimanjaro climb briefing and Kilimanjaro equipment check.

Arrival and Gear Check

The next morning, you will drive to Moshi to start your trek. On the way to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park you will pass through the village of Machame, which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. Once you leave the park gate (5,718 ft/1,743 m) you will walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge until you reach the Machame Camp (9,350 ft/2,835 m).

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Shortly after leaving the Machame camp, you will leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path to a steep rocky ridge, covered with heather. The route then turns west onto a river gorge onto the Shira Campsite (12,303 ft/3,750 m).

 Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp

From the Shira Plateau, you will continue to the east up a ridge eventually passing the Lava Tower (15,190 ft/4,630 m), called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, you come to the second junction which brings you up to the Arrow Glacier and continuing on to the Barranco campsite (12,795 ft/3,900 m).

 Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

A steep climb up the Barranco Wall leads to the trail on the south-eastern side of Kibo, along the southern ice fields. You will enjoy the unique vegetation as you transition from the moorlands to the high alpine desert. The Barranco Wall does involve a fair bit of scrambling up the rock face, while not a technical climb, many see this as one of the most challenging terrain. From the top of the wall, there is only a short distance to our camp at Karanga (13,107 ft/3,995 m).

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast you will follow an easy path on compacted earth, with wide views, as we gain altitude to reach the Barafu Hut (15,331 ft/4,673 m) for lunch. Then following a full briefing of what we need for summit (how to dress and how to pack) and a health and safety briefing, you will have an early supper and try to get some sleep.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Hut

You will start your ascent at about midnight to 1 am, depending on the fitness and speed of your fellow climbers, so that you can be up on the crater rim by sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree and nice graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take you to Stella Point (18,884 ft/5756 m), in about five or six hours. You will rest there for a short time to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. For those of you still feeling strong, will continue with the two-hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft/5,895 m), passing close to glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. With ample time for pictures at the summit, you will begin the descent back to Barafu for lunch, and after some refreshments, you will continue to descend to reach our final campsite at Mweka Camp (9,350 ft/2,835 m)

Summit attempt - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and back down to Mweka Camp

A sustained descent on a well-constructed path will take you through a lovely tropical forest alive with bird-songs. The route winds down to Mweka gate at (5,381 ft/1,640 m). You will have lunch at the Gate, a ceremony with the porters congratulating you as you receive your certificate, issued at the gate. The guides will then drive you back to your hotel in Arusha for a well-deserved shower.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

If you are the returning home, your guide's driver will bring you to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to 3 hours before your flight. If you are continuing with a Safari, you will rest today before starting very early the next morning.
