Overview

Climb Mt. Shasta, a beautiful volcano in the Cascade range, standing tall at 14,179 feet. The Avalanche Gulch route used for this climb can be a great introduction to mountaineering for beginner mountaineers who are in good physical condition.

Prior to your climb, on a pre-determined date, you will do a snowskills course with guides who will teach you the skills necessary for your climb covering skills such as selecting clothing and equipment for a snow climb, how to walk in balance with an ice axe, traversing a slope, kicking steps, self arrest techniques, plunge stepping, glissading, assessing snow conditions and crampon use.

Then you will climb this mountain under the guidance of your guides over 2 days and learn skills such as snow camping and practice snow walking techniques, roping up, self arrest and more along the way with the group gear provided by teh guides.

Whether this is your first 14er or your first glaciated climb, you are sure to get a taste of mountaineering with a hike to basecamp, followed by an early alpine start on the following day and push to the summit, before descending down the mountain.

Please reach out to us at team@adventuretripr.com or via WhatsApp for bulk bookings of more than 6 participants. Also note that the cancellation policy for this trip is different from our overall cancellation policy. Please see the FAQ section below for details.

Itinerary

Day 1: Equipment check and base camp approach

You will start your climb by meeting your guides for a briefing. The guides will carry out a gear check and distribute group gear to each participant.

You will then drive to the Bunny Flat trailhead (6,950 feet) for another group briefing and start the approach to base camp. The base camp is typically set up at Helen Lake. However, the location may vary based on your guide's judgment.

Distance: 2.5-3.5 miles, Elevation gain: 1,500-2,500 feet

At the base camp you will set up camp, get a snack, and a briefing from your guides on various snow climbing techniques including wearing crampons, ice axe use, rope travel, and self arrest.

Your guides will then brief you on the day's logistics and what to pack for the summit push, before you retire into your tents for a quick nap before an alpine start the following day.
